[dropcap cap="C"]ells can be compared to a well-run factory. Each person working in a factory has a specific job to complete to ensure the factory works at peak performance levels. Cells are no different. [/dropcap] The cell is a basic unit of structure, function and organization of all organisms. Each part of a cell specializes in an activity or service that benefits the cell, and ultimately the organism as a whole. All cells fall into one of two categories: prokaryotes or eukaryotes. The groups of organisms known as Eukaryotes are characterized by their complex cell structures with systems of membrane-bound organelles. This group includes organisms such as animals, plants, fungi, and protists.
